About the role
We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to build scalable, high-performance software powering Katalon's next generation platform. You'll work closely with the teams to deliver robust backend services, modern web applications, and cloud-native solutions while leveraging AI to improve both product capabilities and engineering productivity.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and modern web applications using Java, Python, and JavaScript technologies.
Collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and implementation planning.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following software engineering best practices.
Review code and mentor engineers to improve code quality, maintainability, and system reliability.
Build highly available, secure, and observable distributed systems.
Improve application performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
Contribute to shared engineering libraries, internal frameworks, and developer tooling.
Investigate and resolve production issues while continuously improving system stability.
Adopt modern AI-powered developer tools to improve engineering productivity and automate repetitive development tasks where appropriate.
Job Requirements
Strong expertise in Java for building scalable backend systems and APIs using frameworks such as Quarkus, Spring Boot, or Micronaut.
Proven experience designing and building highly available, distributed systems, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, observability, and scalability.
Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing, including both batch and real-time workloads using technologies such as Apache Spark, PySpark, and AWS Kinesis Data Streams.
Strong proficiency in Python, with a solid understanding of core concepts, data structures, and algorithms, plus practical experience with PySpark, Pandas, and data-processing workflows.
Experience with web instrumentation and browser automation, including JavaScript/TypeScript, browser APIs, traffic capturing, and Playwright.
Hands-on experience deploying, operating, and scaling cloud-native services using Docker and Kubernetes.
Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and version control, with experience using tools such as GitHub Actions.
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including SOLID, DRY, modular design, and writing maintainable, high-quality code.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with experience mentoring engineers and collaborating across teams.
Ability to work effectively with Product, Infrastructure, and Data teams in a fast-paced environment.
AI-Native Mindset: Curious and proactive about applying AI to engineering, with an interest in areas such as prompt engineering, LLM integration, agent-based design patterns, and AI-powered automation.
Conversational English skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience working with AI-powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.
Exposure to integrating LLM APIs or AI capabilities into software products.
Familiarity with prompt engineering or AI-assisted software development.
Experience building SaaS products serving enterprise customers.
Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities.
